Rhombohedral pentalayer graphene study published in PRX

Our work investigating interaction-driven Chern insulator states in rhombohedral pentalayer graphene was published in Physical Review X. We found integer quantum anomalous Hall states at both integer and fractional fillings of the moiré band. The integer-quantized state at a fractional filling of two electrons per three moiré unit cells is particularly surprising, given that a prior study found the fractional quantum anomalous Hall effect at the same filling. Our work hints at a close competition between the formation of fractionalized quasiparticles and topological electronic crystals in this material. This writeup from the Condensed Matter Journal Club has more details. Congratulations to Dacen, Anna, and all the coauthors!
